COMPONENT @ THIRD SPACE

❑ ❑ ❑ - WORKSHOP @ THIRD SPACE

During this 2 hour workshop we built a very simple sound device that reacts to light. The schematic is based on a design by the Japanese physician Leo Esaki and consists of a transistor, light-sensor (LDR), capacitor, speaker and power source. We will construct this simple oscillator by attaching electronic components with screw-terminals.

3. ALOES presents a composed performance combining sound and projected particle visuals

4. ❑ ❑ ❑ - workshop - during which a simple oscillator can be constructed

5. an evening to bring your own instruments so we can have a jam session together

During the past two years Marloes van Son has worked on the Devices-project, which consists of experimental instrument design, composition through the development of visual scores, workshops and audiovisual performances.

COMPONENT presents the current state of the Devices-project at Third Space. Next to the exhibition element it includes an audiovisual performance by ALOES (sound: Marloes van Son, visuals: Alex van Giersbergen), a workshop and a ‘bring your own instrument’ - evening.

LIVE PERFORMANCE @ SÄHKÖTYYNY

I played a live-set at Bassoradio during their Sähkötyyny show on Sunday March 11th 22:00-00:00!

ALOES @ ÄÄNIAALTO III 8.3.2018

ALOES is a newly formed audiovisual project by Alex van Giersbergen and Marloes van Son. Alex is a new media artist, who uses programming to create computer- and electronic-based works. Marloes is an experimental instrument builder, sound artist and composer. With ALOES they combine efforts to present atmospheric soundscapes with melodic elements which interact with particle based visuals.

∆∏ o·\^¬ DEVICES @ KUUSI PALAA

During this workshop participants built an instrument based on Arduino. The sound is generated using Mozzi, which is a sound synthesis software library for Arduino. After designing and building a working prototype, participants played with incorporating random values in compositions, physical tonal layouts for melodic scores and collaborative performance methods. After everyone developed a working prototype, the participants performed a roughly composed piece with their instruments on Tuesday 6th at Kallio Stage.

Approximate timetable:
Monday 5th of March: 13:00 - 19:00
On the first day we considered the design of the interface, assemble and test the electronics.
Tuesday 6th of March 10:30 - 15:30
On the second day we programmed our devices, developed and practiced the collective performance.
Souncheck at Kallio Stage: 16:30
Performance at Kallio Stage: 18:06

This workshop was part of ÄÄNIAALTO III (5-9.03.2018)

FILTER @ PARKLICHT

BUILDING UP: PARKLICHT

From the 28th until the 30th of December my installation FILTER was part of the Parklicht light-art exhibition in the Oosterpark at Amsterdam.
